William Gargan was an American actor who was born on July 17, 1905, in Brooklyn, New York. He had a successful career in film, television, and stage, appearing in over 100 movies and numerous TV shows.
Gargan is best known for his roles in films such as "Rain" (1932), "Cheers for Miss Bishop" (1941), and "They Knew What They Wanted" (1940), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
In addition to his film work, Gargan also had a successful career in radio, where he starred in the popular detective series "Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator" in the 1950s.
Gargan passed away on February 17, 1979, at the age of 73. He was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983.
